Frequently asked questions
Where is my data stored?
Entirely on your iPhone. Hop Explorer has no accounts, no servers, and makes no network requests. Your beers, photos, ratings, and tasting notes never leave your device.
How do I back up my beer library?
Because everything is stored in the app's local documents folder, your library is included automatically in your normal iPhone backup (iCloud Backup or a computer backup). Restoring your phone from a backup restores your library with it.
How do I delete a beer entry?
Open the beer from your Library, then use the delete action on the detail screen. Deletion is immediate and permanent — there is no server copy to recover from, so it's truly gone.
How do I erase all my data?
Deleting the app from your iPhone removes all of its data. Since Hop Explorer stores nothing off-device, uninstalling is a complete erasure.
Why does the app ask for photo library access?
Only so you can attach photos of a beer to its journal entry. Photos you choose are copied into the app's private storage; the app never scans or uploads your library.
Why does the app ask for my location?
Optionally, to tag where you discovered a beer so it can appear on your personal map. Location is only read when you add an entry, is stored on-device with that entry, and is never transmitted anywhere.
What iOS version do I need?
Hop Explorer requires iOS 17 or later.
